Tectyl 506
Tectyl 506 is a corrosion preventative compound with a wax-based, solvent cutback formulation. It boasts effective water displacement capabilities and excellent penetration, making it ideal for a broad range of protective uses in automotive, marine, household, and industrial settings. This product is also well-suited for both indoor and outdoor protection of components, ensuring their integrity during extended transportation.
Once applied, it dries to form a firm, waxy, and translucent film with a dark amber hue.
To apply Tectyl 506:
Step 1: Prepare the surface
Make sure the metal surface is clean, dry, and free of rust, oil, and mill scale. The metal should be between 50-95°F (10-35°C).
Step 2: Shake and spray
Shake the can well and spray from about 25 cm away from the surface.
Step 3: Apply multiple layers
Spray one layer, wait 2–3 minutes, and then spray another layer. Repeat until you reach the desired film thickness, and the equipment is completely covered. 50 micron is the most economical thickness – A wet film thickness gauge/comb can help with this
Step 4: Allow to dry
Tectyl 506 is usually dry to the touch in 45–60 minutes. Warmer environments will reduce dry time

How long does a Tectyl protective coating last?
Tectyl 506 protective coating can last 36 months indoor and 18 months outdoor with as little as a 50-micron coating. This allows you to lightly coat your assets or stock and leave them on the shelf for 3 years. We have products to suit every application, making use of solvent, non-solvent and water based technology.
Removal of Tectyl 506
Tectyl 506 is easily removed with mineral spirits or petroleum-based solvents it can also be removed with hot alkaline cleaners. Low pressure steam is also a highly effective way to remove Tectyl 506 . If Tectyl 506 has hardened and cured it can also be removed with Tectyl Biocleaner: a water based biodegradable cleaner diluted in water.
